From 1 to 5 July the Stellenbosch Wine Festival will paint the Winelands red – a treat for football fans who will be visiting the Mother City during the 2010 World Cup Soccer Season.
The Festival will also be running a fun Supporters’ Football Competition on a mini-pitch in the vineyards of the Helderberg region. This 5-a-side competition offers enthusiasts the chance to loosen up and emulate their heroes in a relaxed Cape Winelands setting, with friends and families cheering at the sidelines.
This will be the 9th annual Stellenbosch Wine Festival and it’s happening a month earlier this year so that our international soccer visitors will have the chance to experience South Africa’s most celebrated wine route, richly populated with wine estates and cellars. There are more than 140 wine farms in and around the town of Stellenbosch!
An extensive network of shuttles will be running to transport guests between the numerous participating wine farms. All you need do is arrive at any of the allocated Park-and-Ride areas, or visit the Info Centre at Doornbosch in Stellenbosch to purchase a festival pass and take a shuttle to the wine farms of your choice.
Participating farms are offering wine tastings and various other activities. This year’s programme includes day trips to interactive winemaking experiences, restaurant experiences and exclusive winemaker dinners.
The Stellenbosch Wine Festival has become a tradition during the winter months in Stellenbosch and is a popular destination for both local and international visitors. Last year the festival attracted more than 13 500 visitors with another record attendance anticipated this year.
There are some wonderful accommodation choices in Stellenbosch, ranging from large world-class hotel complexes to more intimate boutique-style guest retreats. Treat yourself and stay at Asara Wine Estate & Hotel, Lanzerac Hotel & Spa, Makeka House or River Manor Boutique Hotel & Spa.
