Here’s the story …
Need a kick-start as an aspirant writer? Well, you could spend a luxurious weekend at De Hoek Country Hotel from 12 – 14 October, soaking up some inspiration from nature and having internationally published novelist, journalist, columnist and broadcaster Hamilton Wende give you the heads-up on how to get published in all genres.
Several aspects of the writing craft will be demystified, including:
- How, where to begin?
- Voice, style, originality, language
- Plot, narrative structure, the logic of story-telling
- Fiction or non-fiction?
- Readership. Who do you aim your book at? Who do you go to for feedback?
- Manuscripts, editing, making your final draft the best it can be
- How and where to find a publisher
- Selling yourself and your book
R2 950 per person sharing, inclusive of both nights accommodation at this gorgeously tranquil hideout, all teas during the weekend, lunch and dinner on Friday, breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch on Sunday. The workshop costs an additional R1500 per person. Writers’ partners are welcome to come along for the luxurious stay, without attending the workshop.
About the workshop leader:
Hamilton Wende is an award-winning writer and journalist. He has published 6 books, ranging from a children’s picture book, to Deadlines from the Edge, an account of his travels as a reporter. His most recent novel, House of War, is a thriller set in Afghanistan. In addition, he has edited numerous books, and has been a regular guest lecturer at Wits, Rhodes & UCT. He has worked around the world as a reporter and radio broadcaster.
