Spring Flowers

On a sunny late-September afternoon we visited the Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden at Worcester, Western Cape. We were almost transfixed by the dazzling colours of the vygies (mesembs), which looked absolutely triumphant in large clumps of yellow, mauve, red, orange and pink. Meandering along the pathways, we saw a variety of desert and semi-desert plants, but … Continue reading “Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden Through the Lens of the Exclusive Getaways Camera”

In Spring the West Coast comes alive with flowers. There are many places along the West Coast to enjoy the Spring flowers – and we’ve visited a few lately – but be sure to see the wild veld flowers in the Darling area on your next West Coast getaway. The roadsides burst into colour and reserves are decked out … Continue reading “West Coast Spring Flower Magic: All the Glory of the Wild Veld Flowers at Darling”

To celebrate the first day of Spring in South Africa, we’re sharing the pics we took on Saturday at Cape Point. After a week of wild storms and heavy rain, Capetonians were able to step out into a gorgeously clear day on Saturday, the world looking bright and beautiful again. We spent the day in … Continue reading “Cape Point in Pictures to Celebrate Spring”

The beauty of the West Coast National Park on the Cape’s West Coast is almost astounding. Feast on sights of rock-studded shorelines, sand dunes white as milk, the bright turquoise waters of the Langebaan Lagoon, and majestic carpets of flowers in springtime. As if this were not enough, the park will also delight you with sightings of many … Continue reading “Put Some Spring in Your Step. Head for the Flowers and the West Coast National Park”

Soon Spring will be delivering its festive wildflower displays,  so start planning a blooming good Spring flower getaway. One superb wildflower getaway option is Sanbona Wildlife Reserve in the Little Karoo. Spring brings colourful carpets of flowers to the area – daisies feature abundantly, but there are also some pretty unusual varieties to be seen. … Continue reading “Wild About Flowers: A Spring Getaway at Sanbona Wildlife Reserve”

When you get away to Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve (and bear with the last few kilometres on a gravel road – it’s well worth it!), you’re heading for pure, untainted wilderness. It’s a wonderworld of curiously weathered rock formations, majestic canyons and wide open spaces. This uniquely appealing place is a true hideaway. It’s concealed in a … Continue reading “This Rocks! Stay Four-Star in Cave Rooms and Round Huts amid Massive Rock Formations at Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve”

We stood there, utterly incredulous, our breath catching at the sheer wonder of it all – the veld at Darling on the West Coast in its fantastic Spring glory. We were at Waylands, one of Darling’s flower reserves that is open to the public for viewing of the wild flowers in Spring.

The West Coast National Park is a place of exceptional beauty. Rugged, rock-studded shorelines, snow-white dunes, the turquoise waters of the Langebaan Lagoon, lots of coastal fynbos and densely-woven carpets of pretty flowers in springtime – the park has an abundance of scenery, and is home to scores of birds and animals.

There’s no better time to vist the colourful flower-powered West Coast than right now. The spring flowers are at their best, and the whales are around the coast too.
