A jubilant “we loved it all” and “sensational” sums up a great, never-to-be-forgotten safari at beautiful Makweti Safari Lodge in Limpopo. Just back in Oz after a fantastic Makweti-style safari in the Welgevonden Private Game Reserve, our delighted clients have let us know that the Makweti safari was a wonderful string of highlights from start to finish.

Within the first half an hour of Johan picking us up from the gate, on the way to the lodge, we saw a herd of buffalo and then a massive bull elephant that was scratching it’s back on a tree.  We had to wait for it to move out of our way, so that we could continue to the lodge. We saw 4 of the big 5, including great lion and multiple other animal sightings.”  Well, things certainly did get off to a great start!

Five-star Makweti offers a superb safari in an especially beautiful part of the country – the lodge is perched above the dramatic Makweti Gorge, and is framed by giant Euphorbias which create an enchanting atmosphere. Inside, the lodge has a beauty all of its own, with rare African art, antique treasures and gorgeous woven textures. From the lounge you can see the waterhole which invites a natural flow of wildlife into the camp.  “At the waterhole in front of the lodge,” report the folk from Oz, “there were herds of wildebeest, warthog, zebra, baboons, kudu etc.” Always great to to enjoy so much game viewing at the lodge, in addition to what one sees out on safari drives.

There’s also a beautiful swimming pool at Makweti, set amid rocks and surrounded by the bushveld – which is free of malaria, incidentally – another big plus for Makweti.

The accommodation and service at the lodge was unbelievable“, our guests add, “the staff did everything they possibly could do, to make our stay memorable, from High Tea on a blanket under a tree before a game ride, to a fabulous candle lit dinner in the boma. We loved our rooms, the outside showers, and little splash pool on the deck“.

Makweti is an easy three-hour drive from Johannesburg, which adds to its appeal. Mail us to book a safari at Makweti (or elsewhere), or call us on 0860 102 907 (local) or +27 21 797-7122 (international).
