Live a tad closer to the wilderness when you choose a tented safari. And one of the delicious choices you could make is Kapama Buffalo Camp – a divine little oasis of creature comforts grounded on sweeping tracts of savannah in the vast Kapama Private Game Reserve in Limpopo. A little to the east of Kapama is the Kruger National Park. Fly in to Hoedspruit’s Eastgate Airport, which is only a 10-minute drive from the entrance to the reserve. And that’s just where your safari begins, when Kapama’s guides collect you in a safari vehicle and drive you to the camp. Start looking out for animals!

Kapama Buffalo Camp Lodge Interior

Kapama Buffalo Camp

Buffalo Camp is a little Eden all of its own. Created from stone and wood, the lodge has a consolingly natural feel to it, and it’s a luxuriously contemporary space in which to submit to the wilderness. There are just ten tents (tented suites, actually), set beneath the treetops along a riverbank. The river is seasonal, and in the dry season animals use it as a pathway to find their grazing. The suites are plushly old-world-Africa in tones that warm and serenitize. Both cooled and heated, the tents keep you exceedingly comfy no matter the season. There’s also the added splurge of having your own stocked minibar and Nespresso coffee machine. Timber walkways link the tents, and these become perfectly magical meanderings after dark when you make your way to your night’s rest in the amber glow of oil lanterns.

Kapama Buffalo Camp Pool DeckThe central relaxation spaces of the camp are also set along the riverbank, letting in the wilderness and the surrounding gardens of aloe and euphorbia. The pooldeck is a spoil of a chill-spot in the heat of the day. A sleek rim-flow pool has been raised level with the forest canopy, and so the views are fabulous!
