About Samara Karoo Reserve

Samara Karoo Reserve is a magical place in the Great Karoo. It is a magnificent, malaria-free wilderness of 70 000 protected acres - "a landscape of space, stars and silence, of heart-lifting scenery and specially-adapted wildlife, of characteristic culture and of global conservation importance". All of the 'Big Five' inhabit this world, and much else besides. Guests at Samara gain insight into active conservation projects; they can walk-and-stalk the highly endangered cheetah, explore Karoo plains viewing magnificent herds of antelope, delight in the mountain plateau where Cape Mountain Zebra have found safety, view fossils predating the dinosaurs, as well as ancient Bushman paintings. Three intimate luxury lodges sleep a maximum of 34 people on the reserve. Karoo Lodge sleeps up to 24 guests in ten standalone suites, two of them designed for families. The Manor offers a contemporary take on Karoo living, with 4 suites sleeping up to 8 on an exclusive-use basis. Plains Camp is Samara’s newest eco-tourism offering, an off-grid tented experience for up to 8 guests. Experiences at Samara include guided 4x4 and foot safaris, conservation activities, cheetah tracking, family activities, wilderness picnics and outdoor dining, sleepouts and fly camping. Children: All ages (children 8+ permitted on scheduled game drives, but shorter bumble drives are offered to all children.) TGCSA Grading: Five-Star
