On a sunny late-September afternoon we visited the Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden at Worcester, Western Cape. We were almost transfixed by the dazzling colours of the vygies (mesembs), which looked absolutely triumphant in large clumps of yellow, mauve, red, orange and pink. Meandering along the pathways, we saw a variety of desert and semi-desert plants, but the displays of vygies remain in our minds the great highlight of the day. These are some of our happy camera moments snapped in the Karoo Desert Gardens – we hope you enjoy them! Do what we did, and take a picnic lunch to enjoy on the lawns.
