The Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden is a unique and magnificent garden at the foot of the Hex River Mountains, at Worcester. It displays many desert and semi-desert plants on 154 hectares. The Shale Trail and Grysbokkie Trail are two hiking trails in the natural part of the garden. Spring – late July until end September – is the best time to visit, when the annuals and vygies (mesembs) are in bloom. They make dazzling displays well worth enjoying. Visitors can picnic on the lawns or make use of the restaurant on site.
