Feast on the delights of Cape Town, the ancient rocky landscape of the Cederberg, and the fynbos-clad mountainside and coastal paradise of Walker Bay / Hermanus
Arrive in glorious Cape Town, collect your car and check in at your hotel of choice. Take a scenic drive along the world-class Atlantic Seaboard via the red carpet coastal suburbs of Llandudno, Camps Bay and Clifton, to enjoy the several pristine beaches along this impressive coastal stretch. Go out and sample some of Cape Town’s superb nightlife and entertainments.
Take the cable car up to the summit of Table Mountain, where the views are glorious. Other sightseeing options in the peninsula are the pretty harbour village of Hout Bay, Chapmans Peak Drive, Noordhoek Beach, Cape Point, the penguin colony at Boulders Beach in the naval town of Simons Town, and the quaint harbour village of Kalk Bay (a good lunch stop). The V & A Waterfront is also a popular attraction, and from there you can take a boat tour to Robben Island. Another attraction well worth visiting is Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens.
Check out after breakfast and drive to your destination in the Cederberg area (about 270 km). Here there are vast open plains, ancient rock formations, crystal-clear waterfalls, and many varieties of plants and animals. Get some pampering at an on-site wellness spa that uses products made from indigenous plants, and then enjoy a late afternoon nature drive, returning to dine in one of several beautiful locations.
Enjoy a delicious breakfast before going out on a guided walking excursion to view ancient San rock art sites. You can also choose from a range of other outdoor activities, including swimming, biking and canoeing. Go out into the scenic reserve with a guide in the late afternoon to enjoy the animals and plants. Return to another wonderful dinner at the lodge.
Check out after breakfast and drive to the Robertson Wine Valley, sheltered by the Langeberg mountains and nurtured by the Breede River (about 250 km). The pretty town of Robertson is more than 150 years old, and is graced with many quaint Victorian buildings, Jacaranda trees and vineyards. Visit a local winery or olive farm, or enjoy a cruise with picnic lunch on the Breede River.
After breakfast, check out of the hotel and drive to Walker Bay (about 140 km). Check in at your accommodation base in a private nature reserve. Do a forest walk or a hiking trail, and go out with your hosts on a 4×4 mountain drive to view local fynbos. Horse trails are also on offer from the lodge. Enjoy dinner at the lodge, and retire to a spacious suite at either Garden Lodge or Forest Lodge.
Fill your day with wonderful outdoor activities in the company of environmentalists. These could include beach hikes to view coastal caves, boat tours to see seals and African penguins, whale-watching in season, and shark-cage diving expeditions for the brave-hearted. You could also drive to nearby Hermanus and visit its beaches and nature reserve.
Check out after breakfast and drive to Hermanus (about 60 km). Explore the Hemel and Aarde Wine Valley; walk the scenic Cliff Path at Hermanus and enjoy Grotto and Voelklip beaches; whale watch in season, and walk in the beautiful Fernkloof Nature Reserve.
Check out of your hotel after breakfast and return to Cape Town (about 120 km).
