Going away with children can be a lot of fun, but – and here’s the big proviso – you really do need to choose a getaway that really welcomes children rather than merely accommodates them.

Young Safari-Goers Leave Their Mark on Africa

Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge is an old family favourite, but now offers even more to families bringing children to the bush. The EleFun Centre has just opened – a fully fledged children’s facility which keeps little safari guests busy and suitably entertained, whilst simultaneously promoting appreciation of nature.

The new centre was designed by childcare professionals who have created a space that is fun, safe and educational. It offers hands-on interactive activities for two distinct age groups: The Junior Tracker programme is for 4 to 8 year olds, and the Junior Ranger programme is for children between the ages of 9 and 12.

Age-appropriate bushveld activities – featuring a whole number of environmentally sensitive subjects – are supervised by qualified staff. Rangers lead bush walks and talks, as well as special children’s game drives. Tracking, bird identification, bug viewing and map reading are also on the programme, along with treasure hunts, arts and crafts, and indoor and outdoor games. The beautifully designed centre also includes a secure and enticing outdoor play area.
