Ten glorious days, from beautiful Cape Town and neighbouring coastal hideouts to the safari-goers’ paradise of the Timbavati, with a spot of sightseeing in scenic Mpumalanga
Arrive at Cape Town International Airport. Collect your hired car and drive to your hotel.
Beautiful Cape Town is at your feet! Somewhere near the top of your sightseeing list might be a visit to world-famous Table Mountain (if the weather plays along), or you could explore Cape Town city centre, including the old Castle of the Cape of Good Hope, a number of museums, the Bo-Kaap (Malay Quarter) and the Houses of Parliament. Stroll through the historic Company’s Garden situated on Government Ave opposite the Houses of Parliament. Leaving the old behind you, head for the new and the vibrant at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront where you can enjoy markets, shops and all things hip. You can also take a harbour tour, or take a Catamaran trip to the famous Robben Island to view Nelson Mandela’s former prison site.
Another day in fabulous Cape Town is waiting! After breakfast, visit the magnificent Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, a beautifully laid out garden which is home to some 6 000 different species of flora. Go on to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and Cape Point, boasting some of the country’s richest floral heritage and amazing scenery from several different lookout spots. You can also take a funicular to a spectacular lookout point where the views are exceptional. Stop at the beautiful Boulders Beach en route, where you can meet the only Jackass penguin colony in the Cape Peninsula. Alternatively, visit Hout Bay and board a boat to Seal Island. Drive along the spectacular Atlantic Seaboard via Llandudno, Camps Bay and Sea Point and put a toe in the water at beaches more beautiful than any.
After breakfast, check out of the hotel and enjoy an easy drive to Gansbaai, Arniston or De Hoop Area. All are popular towns close to the world’s best land-based whale watching destinations. Enjoy the scenic beauty of these areas, as well as the mild climate and a range of outdoor attractions.
Enjoy a second day in your chosen coastal destination, or select another for a one-night stay. Spend the day at leaisure. In Gansbaai there’s shark-cage diving, boat tours and guided coastal walking excursions. At Arniston there are awesome coastal caves to explore and a long stretch of beach, and nearby is Cape Agulhas. In De Hoop Nature Reserve you can dune-stroll, hike, bike, do some snorkelling, or explore intriguing rock pools.
Your South African safari is coming into view! After breakfast, check out of the hotel and drive to Cape Town Airport and return the hired car. Fly from Cape Town to Hoedspruit Airport. A representative from a private safari lodge will meet and transfer you to your selected lodge. Meet some of Africa’s wildlife on a late afternoon / evening game drive and return to a congenial dinner at the lodge.
Experience an exhilarating early morning game drive, returning to a late-morning breakfast feast. Spend the remainder of the morning at leisure at the lodge or enjoy a guided bush walk in the reserve, returning for lunch. Return to the wilderness with your guide in the late afternoon for another 4×4 drive which will extend into the evening, with a sundowner stop along the way. Dinner will conclude the day.
After an early morning game drive and breakfast, you will be transferred back to Hoedspruit Airport. Collect a hired car and drive to picturesque Hazyview on the Mpumalanga Lowveld.
After a leisurely breakfast, drive out to some of the well-known scenic attractions of Mpumalanga. There’s the breathtaking Blyde River Canyon, the unusually weathered Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the exquisitely scenic God’s Window. Yuo could also do some sightseeing by helicopter for a birds-eye-view of this scenery-rich area.
After breakfast, drive to Kruger Mpumalanga Airport (approximately a 65 km drive) and return hired car. Fly to O R Tambo International Airport for your flight back home.
