De Hoop Nature Reserve covers about 34 000 hectares & the entire length of its coast is a protected marine area. The reserve encompasses the breeding grounds of the southern right whale and large dunes provide superb vantage points. De Hoop is celebrated for its unmatched whale watching during season (June – November). Many mammals have their home in the reserve too, among them the Cape Mountain zebra, bontebok, baboon, grey rhebuck, eland and yellow mongoose. Over 260 varieties of bird make this a wonderful experience for birders. The reserve also offers hiking and biking trails, interpretive marine walks, fynbos routes, guided eco quad biking trips, and more.
