Places remote and unspoiled have an irresistible pull. There’s something incomparably satisfying about leaving your footprint on a pristine beach, washed perfectly clean of the tracks of anyone who might have come before you. The Wild Coast of Southern Africa – the home of Prana Lodge – is just such a place, unspoiled and exquisitely peaceful. It’s one of the precious gems of the Eastern Cape, and offers year-round beauty and seasonal sardine runs, dolphin and whale watching.
Idyllic Prana Lodge on the Wild Coast is beautifully ensconced in an indigenous dune forest with private access to 21 km of pristine beach. It’s a soul-soothing forest sanctuary that also offers the magic of beachside luxury. It’s also a place that also allows a gentle reconnection with one’s deepest inner rhythms through yoga, meditation and treatments at a beautiful Thai Spa and Wellness Centre.
Whatever it is that calls you away, this is a destination that answers just about any dream. It’s a paradise for weddings away-from-the-crowds, romantic honeymoons, anniversary breaks, wellness retreats, family reunions, exclusive functions and prime executive getaways.
There are seven luxury executive suites at Prana Lodge, each with its own garden and plunge pool.
Prana Lodge Restaurant is a wonderful all-season venue, set in a beautiful garden. It caters for breakfast, lunch, high tea and dinner, and welcomes both resident guests and visitors. The restaurant opens out onto a pool deck and lawn where refreshing meals are served in summer. There’s a large fireplace to keep diners cosy during winter, when meals are prepared to warm and fortify.
Prana Lodge is located at Chintsa East, which is just 40 minutes from the East London Airport on the Jikeleza Wild Coast Route.
Spend your time hiking in the indigenous bush and along long unpeopled beaches, do some fishing, scuba diving, surfing and kite-boarding, or visit the nearby Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve to view rhino, elephant, giraffe, zebra and antelope on a guided drive. Play golf at the East London Golf Course, or bowls and tennis at the Chintsa Country Club. There’s prolific birdlife in the area, including sea, estuary, river and inland species.
The Wild Coast, incidentally, is also the birthplace of some prominent South Africans, including Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki.
