Jaci’s Lodges are the fabulous inspiration of owners Jaci and Jan Van Heteren. Now these are real bush people, Jaci and Jan – they’ve lived in the Madikwe for close on two decades now.

Jaci and Jan have raised their three kids in the wilderness, which has brought them a good deal of wisdom about what families need in the bush. But it’s wisdom with a really practical twist, which they’ve woven into their creation of lodges that are fully friendly to families. Everyone is welcome, right from the cradle upwards.

Price-wise it’s a good option because there’s a special rate for children under 12, sharing with parents.

Family safaris at Jaci’s feature activities such as tracking and survival skills that keep kids thoroughly engaged kids and active. Hour-long Jungle Drives are laid on for children aged 4 and younger – a wonderful way to give little ones a feel for the bush, but returning to the lodge before boredom sets in. Back at camp the grub is right up their alley, with kiddies’ quirks well catered for.

For the folks there’s plenty on offer. Aside from the exciting twice-daily game drives which really are the main event of a safari, there’s also fishing, golf nearby and horse riding in the vicinity. Lazing about in the bush at the poolside is of course another perfectly acceptable option!
